In a major historic moment, President Joe Biden has announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race. The announcement came following the news that he contracted COVID-19, which forced him into isolation at his Delaware.

Throughout his reelection campaign, Joe Biden has faced criticism regarding his old age. The first presidential debate in June had given hopes that he could show voters he could still do a second term. However, throughout the debate, he continually stumbled over his words and could not create concise and understandable points in his answers to issues that were quintessential to his platform.

Picture showing the tensions surrounding President Biden. It highlights the criticism of him on both sides, with many Democrats thinking he's too old to run for a second term.

Biden's performance made the Democratic Party panic, causing him to go on a series of speeches and rallies in states important to the 2024 election, but had to slow down following the attempted assassination attempt of former President Trump on July 13 has raised suspicions that it could raise his chances of winning the 2024 election.

Biden's announcement of dropping out of the 2024 race comes after multiple Democrats have asked that he quit his campaign. Prominent Democrats like Nancy Pelosi have pressured Biden to drop out of the race, which had created less support for his campaign.

No incumbent U.S. president since March of 1968 has decided to withdraw from a reelection race. At that time, it had been Lyndon B. Johnson, who had been pressured by the Vietnam War and its controversy among Americans.

Following his announcement, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement. Regardless, Democrats are scrambling to select someone capable of replacing Biden and beating Trump in the upcoming elections.
